Sewing set made of mother-of-pearl, bronze, and marble – France – Napoleon III – circa 1870.

A mother-of-pearl egg mounted on a bronze foot sits on a round marble base, used as a sewing set during the time of King Napoleon III. Two sewing tools are included: a silver thimble and a sewing bradawl. The egg opens and closes with a small hinge and is in perfect working condition.

Beneath the three lids are three zinc containers, which can be used to hold soil and plants. The table is richly decorated all around with gilded railings, garlands, ornaments, and painted panels. It dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. Approx. 103 × 106 × 50 cm.
